About

Local 512.
Skilled, since 1950.

Sheet Metal Workers Local 512 is a province-wide local of SMART — the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers — based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. We train, dispatch and represent the journeypersons and apprentices behind some of the most consequential builds in this province’s history.

01 · Mission

Who we serve.

Our members — journeypersons and apprentices — work across Newfoundland and Labrador in HVAC installation, fabrication, repair and service; architectural sheet metal; manufacturing; and metal roofing. Sheet metal is one of the most diversified construction trades. We work alongside other trades on commercial, industrial and residential projects, using hand tools, power tools and specialized equipment to fabricate, cut, bend and shape sheet metal, plastic and fibreglass.

Our goal is simple: to supply unionized contractors with the most skilled men and women in the province. Every member is trained, ticketed and ready to deliver on the standard our local has built its reputation on for three-quarters of a century.
