Go home
in one piece.
Sheet metal is a physical trade with real hazards — sharp edges, welding, falls, confined spaces, lift work, offshore deployments. The local supports every member in working safely and going home in one piece, every shift.
Three rights
The basics, codified.
01
Every worker has the right to refuse
Under Newfoundland and Labrador OHS law, you have the right to refuse work you reasonably believe is dangerous to yourself or others. The refusal cannot be cause for discipline.
02
Every worker has the right to know
You have the right to information about hazards present on the job — WHMIS labels, safety data sheets, site-specific orientations and any hazard assessments that apply to your work.
03
Every worker has the right to participate
Through joint health and safety committees and worker representatives, members have a seat at the safety table on every regulated site.
Your part
What we expect
on the tools.
- 01Wear and maintain the PPE required for the task at hand.
- 02Use only equipment and tools you are competent and ticketed to operate.
- 03Report hazards, near-misses and incidents promptly through the site's reporting system.
- 04Keep certifications current — see the Certifications page for renewal schedules.
- 05If something feels wrong, stop. Then escalate to the steward or the hall.
